Visa Requirements

Before arriving in Israel, all international students planning to study at the Jerusalem Business School must obtain a multiple-entry A/2 student visa. This can be done only through an Israeli embassy or consulate. Locate your nearest one here.

It is solely your responsibility to apply for and obtain the relevant visa before you leave your country of origin; the Hebrew University Business School is not involved in this process at all. To find out about the procedures and documents required to obtain your visa, please visit the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs website or check with your nearest Israeli embassy or consulate.

In most cases, a letter of acceptance to your program of studies is the only documentation that you will need from the Hebrew University Business School. If the Israeli embassy or consulate requires you to provide any further documentation from the Hebrew University Business School, please contact the representative named on your letter of acceptance to the program.

Please be aware:

  • Without the appropriate visa, you may not be permitted to enter the country.
  • A multiple-entry student visa will simplify the process of traveling in and out of Israel during your studies.
  • You may not be allowed to convert a tourist visa to a student visa once you arrive in Israel, or you may be required to leave the country in order to change your visa type.
  • If you choose to extend your stay in Israel beyond the period of your visa, you may be required to exit the country and then return.
  • The exact visa you need will depend on your citizenship.
  • Holders of student visas are not legally permitted to work in Israel.
  • Your passport must be valid for the full period of the visa.

Visa processing times vary from embassy/consulate to embassy/consulate. It is recommended that you start the application process at least one month prior to your departure for Israel.

Students entering the country under a student visa will not be permitted to stay in Israel after completing the program. If you receive a job offer with an Israeli company at the end of the year, your employer may be able to arrange a visa on your behalf.

If you are an Israeli citizen or have Israeli parents, or if you are entitled to immigrate to Israel under the Law of Return, you will find additional relevant information here.

Health Insurance

All students at the Hebrew University, including the Hebrew University Business School, whether full time, part time, internal or external, must have health insurance coverage for the period of their studies.

For the convenience of its students, the University has arranged an insurance package with the Harel-Yedidim Insurance Company – details of which you can see here.

Health insurance fee is not included in the tuition.

Full-Time Students

Unless otherwise noted, if you are a non-Israeli full-time student who pays tuition and attends an ulpan, a summer program, or a semester or year-long program, you will receive health insurance for the duration of your program, provided you meet the criteria and complete the insurance form.

Israeli Citizens & New Immigrants

If you are an Israeli citizen or new immigrant (oleh), you are personally responsible for joining an Israeli health fund (kupat holim) to assure your access to medical care. You must submit the Health Insurance Waiver.

Campus Life and Studying in Israel

Living on campus with other international and Israeli students gives you access to so much more than stimulating lectures and seminars. Our diverse and welcoming student community offers a range of social, cultural, and religious activities, invigorating athletic and recreational pursuits, and more. Learn about the facilities at the Hebrew University.

During your time in Israel, the Office of Student Life (OSL) is available to help you get the best study abroad experience possible, and immerse yourself in Israeli culture and society through trips, programs, and events. OSL can connect you with Israeli students who work as madrichim (social life staff), and can help you with all your Israel-related questions, ranging from “How do I plan a sea-to-sea hike?” to “Where is the best hummus?” to “Where do I go for medical care?”

For more information about support offered by the OSL.

Jerusalem is a very safe location, with a lower crime rate and higher safety rating than most major cities in the world. See here a safety comparison. Even so, to ensure the maximum safety of our students, we have in place a wide range of security measures, including a fenced and monitored perimeter, security checks at all campus entrances, and security patrols throughout the campus. We also notify students of any security warnings or other suspicious situations through text messages, email, and Facebook messages, and parents and universities are notified through our offices abroad.

For your safety, we recommend students follow these guidelines – please consult International MBA staff or a madrich with any questions.
